WEIR MEETS GLAXO CHAIRMAN

Angus MP, Mike Weir, has met with Sir Christopher Gent, Chairman of Glaxo Smith Kline, and other senior members of the board in London to discuss issues facing the company.

Commenting on the meeting Mr Weir said that it was a useful meeting and free ranging discussion on various issues relating to Glaxo and the pharmaceutical industry in general.

“After a rocky couple of years when it was up for sale and then closure the future of the plant in Montrose is looking much brighter with the recently announced investment in the facility.

“Glaxo has recognised the importance of the Montrose operation to their company and, although employee number are well down from their peak, the plant remains an important part of the economy of Montrose.

“The Glaxo product Relenza will inevitably form part of our defences, against a bird flu pandemic which means there is likely to be an increased demand for ingredients in the future.”
