SNP Members Celebrate A Year of Achievement
Members of the Scottish National Party branches in Forfar, Kirriemuir and Letham held a celebration gathering at the Forfar office of Mike Weir MP on Saturday to celebrate the first anniversary of the election of the first ever SNP government. Earlier in the day members throughout Angus took part in deliveries of the party's "Vision " leaflet. Mr Weir joined activists in Montrose for the distribution.
Commenting on the event Mr Weir said party members were delighted to celebrate not only the party’s win but the achievements of the government’s first year in office.
“The SNP Scottish Government has set a cracking pace over the last year and taken real action on the issues that matter to the people of Angus. At a time when the UK government is pursuing policies, like the abolition of the 10p tax rate, that are hitting families the Scottish Government have frozen the Council Tax, reduced and will abolish prescription charges, abolished tuition fees for students, ending the iniquitous tolls on the Forth and Tay bridges. “
“Small businesses throughout Angus will have been delighted to receive their business rates demands over the past few weeks and to discover that the business bonus scheme has slashed their annual rates payments, on the way to total abolition.”
“These are real achievements in only one year. As the SNP government moves forward putting more police on our streets and more teachers in our classrooms, with our plan to abolish the council tax, to tackle the scourge of drink and drugs in our communities and put Scotland at the forefront of efforts of combat climate change, we will continue to govern in the best interests or the people of Scotland, our families and our communities.”
