WEIR RAISES QUESTIONS OVER POST OFFICE MOVE

Angus MP Mike Weir has raised questions with the Post Office regarding the plan to move the main post office branch in Arbroath and is seeking reassurances that the current service will not be diminished. The Post Office announced that it intends to move the office from its present location within the Abbeygate centre into the Co op store.

Commenting on the move Mr Weir stressed that he was not necessarily opposed to the plan but wanted to ensure that the interests of customers were protected.

“I want to ensure that the new branch will not mean a reduction in the size of the office. The present branch can be very busy and there are often complaints about the queues. We do not know if any of the other Arbroath branches are likely to close in the imminent review of branches in Angus, which will not be published until next spring.”

“The new facilities trumpeted in the Post Office letter seem to me to be already available in the present setting and I am unsure as to the reasoning behind the projected move.”

“It is vital that we do not see a diminution of services at the branch, especially if other branches in the town close.“
