WEIR VISITS OFFSHORE EUROPE 2007
Angus MP Mike Weir, who is a Vice Chair of the All Party Oil and Gas Group, paid a visit to Offshore Europe in Aberdeen today (Tuesday).
Mr Weir visited the Angus Council stand and those of local companies, including Merpro of Montrose.
Commenting on the visit Mr Weir said
“Offshore Europe is a fantastic showcase for the oil and gas industry and an opportunity for local firms to meet representatives from oil and gas interests throughout the world.”
“The oil and gas industry remains an important part of the local economy of Angus, not just for the jobs created for offshore work but also for the worldwide business it brings into local companies.”
“The feeling at the conference was very upbeat showing the continuing confidence of the industry in the future of North Sea production.
“It was noticeable and welcome, however, that he issues of carbon capture and storage and climate change were both high on the agenda. It does demonstrate that the industry is beginning to think beyond oil. It is vital if we are to tackle climate change that we look at ways of both dealing with the carbon dioxide created by energy production but also at alternative energy sources.”
