WEIR – INGRAM SHOULD APOLOGISE FOR FIRST MINISTER INSULT

SNP Energy Spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, has today (Wednesday) called on Labour MP, Adam Ingram, to apologise over his description of Alex Salmond as a ‘Luddite’ because of the Scottish First Minister’s long-standing opposition to nuclear energy.

Mr Weir said:

“Labour have spent a lot of time saying sorry lately, and Adam Ingram should now apologise for his childish insult.

“If Adam Ingram wants to be anything more than a figure of fun, then he needs to marshal a credible argument in favour of nuclear, rather than throw insults at the First Minister.

“The fact is, leaving aside the problems of cost, security and waste associated with nuclear generation, it is simply not the case that nuclear power offers an inexhaustible supply of energy as Adam Ingram would have us believe.

"The only sensible course of action is to invest in renewables and develop our vast coal reserves using new clean coal and carbon capture technology.

“It’s no wonder polls just this week show that even Labour supporters now prefer Alex Salmond’s leadership over that of Gordon Brown and Wendy Alexander.”
