45 Commando May Go To Afghanistan in October.

The Ministry of Defence have confirmed that 3 Commando Group, of which Arbroath based 45 Commando form part, are to be deployed to Helmand Province in Afghanistan in October.

Commenting on the news Angus MP Mike Weir said

“There can be no doubt that if they are deployed the unit will face a very dangerous situation in Helmand Province.”

“45 Commando are well trained and have performed exceptionally well in previous deployments to Afghanistan. I am sure that they will again do the job that they are asked to do with the utmost professionalism and courage.”

“Nonetheless this will be a worrying time for the men and their families, not only in the run up to the deployment but for their period of  service in Afghanistan. It is vital that the troops are given every assistance and equipment required and that the whole community give their support both to the servicemen and their families at this difficult time.”
