WEIR SUPPORTS GREENPEACE IN BATTLE AGAINST NUCLEAR

In a landmark judicial review, Greenpeace have today (Wednesday) taken the UK Government to Court over the issue of new nuclear power stations in the UK.  If Greenpeace win their case, the government will be forced to begin the whole political process again.

Commenting in advance of the Court’s decision, Mike Weir MP, SNP Spokesperson for Energy said:

“The present government are inexplicably transfixed by the idea of new nuclear power stations, despite the fact the last review ruled them out.  Instead of a proper review Mr Blair insisted on trying to bounce the country into a decision with a flawed procedure dressed up as  an energy review.

“Tony Blair seems obsessed by his legacy, but it is likely to consist of the war in Iraq and case for peerages, we cannot allow him to add a new generation of polluting and potentially dangerous nuclear power stations to that ignoble list.

“The SNP remain steadfast in our opposition to any new nuclear power stations in Scotland.  An SNP Government would not allow the construction of any new nuclear powers stations in Scotland.

“It is time for Scotland to have the authority to make its own decision on nuclear power and trident.”
