WEIR CALLS FOR ACTION ON BUSINESS ENERGY COSTS

SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, has today (Thursday) echoed concerns from the Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Liz Cameron, that the rising cost of energy “is rapidly becoming the number one economic concern for Scottish businesses.”

Mr Weir said:

“The pressure of soaring energy prices, compounded by increasing raw material and fuel costs is crippling business, as well as domestic customers.

“Businesses cannot keep absorbing continuous and colossal energy price increases, and record profits by energy firms have shot this issue to the top of the business agenda.

“Soaring prices are particularly hard to swallow when Scotland is such an energy rich country, yet faces steep rises in prices.

“We must have a top level review of the domestic and international energy market, and the Westminster Government needs to investigate the level energy profits in the face of crippling bills for business and domestic consumers
