Weir Calls for Evidence of Workings of Post Office Outreach in Angus

Angus MP Mike Weir is asking constituents for information on how they feel that Post Office outreach services are working in rural areas of Angus. Mr Weir is seeking to collate information to present evidence to a review of the services being undertaken by Consumer Focus, the successor to Postwatch.

Commenting on the matter Mr Weir said it was vital that such services be regularly reviewed.

“As part of the Post Office closure programme Outreach services were established in several areas of Angus. Huge concerns were noted at the time about the services that would be available.”

“Consumer Focus are drawing together evidence as to how the services are now operating to be incorporated into the Post Office annual review of outreaches. Their research has already identified a number of concerns in some areas ranging from the marketing of the services, the reliability of equipment, the lack of contingency measures in the event of a breakdown and privacy issues.”

“I would like to hear from constituents in Angus who have been using the services in our area as to their views on whether the service is working well, is it meeting local needs and details of any particular problems that they have encountered. I intend to prepare a submission to Consumer Focus on the basis of responses received.”

Mr Weir added that the deadline for submissions is Thursday 16th July. Points can be made to him through any of his offices in Arbroath, Forfar or Montrose or by email to weirm@parliament.uk .
