Weir Meets Community Council To Discuss Post Office Services

Angus MP Mike Weir today ( Monday) met with Kirriemuir Landward East Community Council at Memus to discuss his efforts to get the Post Office to consider Outreach services in areas of Angus that have previously lost their post offices.

Mr Weir gave members a short presentation outlining the various types of services that were being trialled. These range from a partner service in connection with a local business or institution, through a home delivery service to a mobile van service. He is seeking views on whether there is support for such services and, if so what type and frequency of services would be desirable.

Commenting on the meeting Mr Weir said,

“It was a very useful discussion with various views as to which services would be most likely to be successful. Clearly there are a range of views on the services and which are most likely to succeed in the various communities but the mobile and home services would appear to have support.”

“Although there is no guarantee that the Post Office will agree to any outreach services I think there is a strong case for them in those areas of Angus that presently have no service, or a very limited service.  If, as seems likely, the current review leads to further closures in the area the pressure on surviving offices will intensify and it will become difficult for more and more people to access post office services.”

Mr Weir added that he had would be interested to hear from any constituents on the matter.
