CAUTIOUS WELCOME TO POWER COMPANY’S WINTER REBATE

Angus MP, Mike Weir, has given a cautious welcome to Scottish Gas’ announcement that it is offering energy rebates of up to £90 to vulnerable householders in Angus this winter.

However, although Mr Weir is urging those eligible to claim the rebate to sign up to the programme as soon as possible, he criticised Scottish Gas for not dealing with the real problem, due to dramatic increases in fuel bills, which will still leave thousands of Angus households struggling to pay their fuel bills.

“While any financial assistance for vulnerable households is welcome, this will still leave many thousands of Scottish Gas customers in Angus struggling to pay their energy bills due to the soaring fuel price increases forced on them by the company in the last year.

“It’s not only vital that those eligible for the scheme sign up to the rebate as soon as possible but that the energy companies, including Scottish Gas, do more to reduce the heavy burden of high fuel bills for everyone, especially as the world price has plummeted over the last month.”
