Weir Welcomes Angus Biofuels Plant

MP Previously Promoted Private Members Bill on Topic.

Angus MP Mike Weir has added his welcome to the Angus Biofuels plant at Padanarm near Forfar which was officially opened by John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, on Friday.

Mr Weir had sponsored a private members bill in the last parliament in an attempt to create a renewable heat obligation to encourage the creation of a biomass industry from Scotland’s abundant forestry and agricultural sector.

“Scotland in general and Angus in particular has a huge opportunity to use our substantial forestry and agricultural sector to give a boost to biomass energy and biofuel production.

“There have been considerable difficulties associated with biofuels in some other areas of the world as they have resulted in destruction of rainforests. “

“Locally produced biomass from sustainable forests avoids these problems and can have a significant impact on helping Scotland create a green energy future.”

“I am delighted that Angus Biofuels have grasped the opportunities and wish them every success with the venture.”
