WEIR JOINS PROTEST AGAINST BEARSKIN HATS
Angus MP Mike Weir took part in a protest action at Westminster organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to highlight the fact that the Ministry of defence continued to use real bearskin for ceremonial hats. In the past five years a staggering £321,000 has been spent on 494 such hats.
Mr Weir has previously supported a Commons motion against the use of real bearskin. Commenting on the action, Mr Weir said:
“It is an utter scandal that these magnificent animals are killed so that their skins can be used as hats. There are perfectly good artificial alternatives are readily available, such as those we demonstrated today.”
