10 PENCE TURNAROUND IS
COMPENSATION CON
1,700 LOW PAID IN ANGUS STILL WORSE OFF
Angus MP Mike Weir , has launched a blistering attack on Labour over the
Chancellor's 10 pence "compensation con", after it emerged 1.1 million low
income households will still be worse off this year, comparatively gaining less
from the Chancellor's panic tax break than they will lose from the ending of the
10p rate.
On average 1,700 people in each constituency will be worse off and over 100,000
across Scotland.
Mr Weir said:
"Scottish Labour MPs have been bragging about Alistair Daring's 10p tax
turn-around, but it’s nothing more than a compensation con. Around 1,700 low
paid people in Angus will still be worse off.
"What kind of compensation package leaves more than a million low paid
households comparatively worse off? Even worse because the matter has been
tackled by increasing the tax relief for everyone on basic rate tax all those
who lost in the original decision still remain relatively less well off.
"It is particularly disgraceful because the people overlooked by Labour are
those on the lowest incomes.”
