Weir and West Visit McCains
Angus MP Mike Weir and Montrose Councillor Sandy West visited McCain’s at Pugeston on Friday to see the facility and to discuss the company’s aims for the future with senior management.
Commenting on the visit Mr Weir said
“ McCain’s clearly are a household name in the frozen food market and it was fascinating to hear about their current business and plans for the future. I was particularly pleased at the strenuous efforts they are making to address health concerns and the substantial steps they have taken to produce healthier products.”
“The company use sunflower oil for their products and have reduced salt content. I was particularly pleased that, unlike many large companies, they have adopted the Food Standard Agency’s “Traffic Light” system so that consumers can see at a glance the information on fat, salt and sugar content. I was even more impressed by the fact that in many products the majority of the “traffic lights” were green”
Councillor Sandy West added
“I very much welcome the commitment that McCains have shown to Angus and the investment they have made in their facilities. They work closely with farmers around Angus and Aberdeenshire with a substantial percentage of the Scottish potato crop passing through Pugeston.”
