MIKE COMMENTS ON AS LAST OF BIG SIX ANNOUNCES ENERGY PRICE INCREASE
As EDF become the last of the big six energy companies to announce it is to increase gas and electricity bills SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson Mike Weir MP called on the UK Government to ‘stop tinkering and take action’ to help energy consumers.
Mr Weir said:
“Like dominos the big six energy companies have announced price increases one after another and it is time that the UK Government stopped tinkering and started taking action to help consumers.
“People just cannot keep absorbing continuous and colossal energy price increases like this, and the Government must step in. These hikes will hit households that are already struggling to make ends meet.
"With fuel poverty amid energy plenty the energy market clearly is not working for the consumer and there is now an overwhelming case for strong reforms to keep the energy market in check.
“Ministers need to take action to help long suffering domestic customers, as well as businesses which are being crushed under the weight of these additional costs."
