Weir Welcomes Assurance on Rail Communication.
Failure Led to Considerable Inconvenience at Montrose
Mike Weir MP has welcomed an assurance from Transport Scotland that they will take up with both First Scotrail and Network Rail communications problems that led to no information being available regarding cancelled trains at Montrose railway station.
Mr Weir had raised concerns after finding that a train from Montrose to Aberdeen had been cancelled but no information was displayed at the station leaving several passengers waiting in vain for the train.
“Transport Scotland have confirmed that First Scot Rail operate the system and cancellations should be displayed on the system, whether they are their services or those of National Express, who recently took over the East Coast mainline franchise from GNER.”
“Transport Scotland inform me that “due to a major signalling problem the train was unable to leave London and an emergency timetable had to operate in Scotland at very short notice.” Unfortunately the revised train running times were not relayed to First Scot Rail or loaded onto the information system.”
“They have also assured me that they will raise the issue of communication links between the companies at the time and also ensure that if something similar happens again procedures are in place to supply passengers with the most up to date information that is available.”
“I am pleased that Transport Scotland are taking action on this matter which did cause severe inconvenience to several passengers waiting at Montrose Station. It is vital that clear and accurate information is available at all times”
