DARLING’S BUSINESS CREDENTIALS IN TATTERS
EDINBURGH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CALL ON CHANCELLOR TO ‘COME CLEAN’
SNP Business Spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, has today (Sunday) backed calls by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce for the Chancellor to ‘come clean’ on the UK Government’s Capital Gains Tax (CGT) plans.
The Deputy Chief Executive of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Graham Birse, called on Alistair Darling to set out the UK Government’s position after the Chancellor failed to deliver his review before Christmas as promised. Mr Birse also revealed that the Chancellor, an Edinburgh MP, had failed to respond to, or acknowledge, correspondence from Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce on this issue sent in early November.
Mr Weir said:
“The prolonged uncertainty Alistair Darling’s dithering is causing the business community is entirely unacceptable, and the Chancellor’s business credentials, such as they were, are now in complete tatters.
“It is also extraordinary that Alasdair Darling has apparently ignored the concerns sent to him by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, not least as the organisation is based in his own constituency.
“The Chancellor must get a grip on this situation, before he makes a bad situation even worse.”
