SNP WELCOMES BELATED PENSION RESCUE PACKAGE

 

Welcoming news that Work and Pensions Secretary, Peter Hain, has today (Monday) announced a £2.9billion rescue package for 140,000 workers who lost their pensions when their companies collapsed, Mike Weir MP, who has been a long-time campaigner on the issue, said:

 

"However belated, this is a very welcome move, and I pay tribute to the campaigners who fought a dignified and thorough campaign to get justice for the losses they suffered as a result of following government advice on pensions.

 

"The move is long overdue and it is a disgrace that it took so long for the UK Government to accept responsibility and move to end this injustice.

 

“Many pensioners have suffered anxiety and stress over this issue and it is fitting that they now, perhaps for the first time in years, can look forward to a happier Christmas."
