DIGITAL
SWITCHOVER COULD LEAVE ANGUS IN CUP FINAL DARK
Angus MP, Mike Weir has expressed concerns that people in Angus could miss the
broadcasting of important Scottish sporting events after the digital switchover.
Mr Weir voiced his concerns after Angus viewers with satellite systems were
denied viewing the Scottish Cup Final between Hearts and Gretna on BBC1 and were
instead shown a typed message for three hours which advised them to switch to
their analogue signal to view the game.
Speaking on the matter, Mr Weir said:
“The failure of Sky TV and digital broadcasters to show the BBC1 coverage of the
Scottish Cup final is concerning especially at a time when people are being
encouraged to switch over from analogue to digital prior to the ending of the
analogue system.
“It is worrying that without broadcasters, OFCOM and the Department for Culture,
Media and Sport coming together to resolve this issue then many Angus people
could miss future Cup Finals and other Scottish sporting events.”
