WEIR ELECTED VICE CHAIRMAN OF POST OFFICE GROUP

Angus MP Mike Weir, SNP Spokesperson on Trade and Industry, has been elected a Vice Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Post Offices at the group’s AGM.

Mr Weir has long campaigned on issues surrounding the Post Office and postal service and said he was delighted with the appointment.

“The Post Office has a special place in our communities but post offices and postal deliveries are under severe threat. “

“The current review of the sub post office network is likely to lead to the loss of hundreds of post offices throughout, including several in Angus. Allied to that the current proposals for zonal pricing may well lead to higher postal charges in rural areas. Such changes could be very damaging not only to postal services but to the whole rural community of Angus.”

“It is vital that the case is made for the retention of our postal services and post offices.”
