WEIR WELCOMES OFGEM INQUIRY

 

Mike Weir MP, SNP Westminster spokesperson on Energy, has welcomed the news that Ofgem are to finally investigate the profits of energy companies. Mr Weir has long called for an investigation to the energy market.

 

Mr Weir said:

 

“Better late than never Ofgem have finally accepted the huge concerns at the record profits energy companies are making whilst thumping consumers with massive price rises.

 

“The excuses offered by the companies have been unconvincing and Ofgem must conduct a vigorous investigation.

 

“This investigation must, however, not be the final word on this issue since it is vital that the related issues relating to competition in the market, and whether there are anti-competitive practises, must also be fully investigated.”
