POSTWATCH FEARS JUSTIFIED STATES MP
Angus MP, Mike Weir, believes Postwatch’s fears regarding the Royal Mail’s new mailing pricing are justified and that the pricing of letters and packages based on the weight, thickness and size will cause a great of confusion for many.
Mr Weir who has previously voiced similar concerns said:
“ This new system is going to cause allsorts of confusion, resulting in lengthy queues at Post Offices.
“The days of simply popping your mail into the nearest Postbox are gone and Postwatch are justified in voicing concerns to the Royal Mail’s new pricing regime.
“However, while it is all very well for the Royal Mail to trumpet that customers will be able to go to their local Post Office for peace of mind and ensure that the right price is paid for sending mail, it is a sad fact that many communities throughout Angus are no longer served by a local Post Office. Even rural offices that do survive some are considering going part time.
“This could leave many residents having to travel unnecessary distances to just post a letter in order to meet the Royal Mail’s new guidelines. Either that or it will leave the receiver paying the excess charge plus the usual admin fee just to receive a letter.”
