MP ACCUSES PO CLOSURE REPORT POLITICALLY DELAYED

Angus MP, Mike Weir, has accused the UK Government of purposely delaying closure plans for Post Offices in the run up to the Scottish Parliament elections.  Mr Weir fears that the reason for this is could be because the decision on post office closures will be worse than expected.

Speaking on his concerns, Mr Weir said:

“When the Trade & Industry Secretary issued the consultation period on their Post Office closure proposals, we were assured that this Labour Government would complete its analysis of responses and publish their report in March.

“However, after another u-turn it seems that this will now be delayed until after the Scottish parliamentary elections in May.

“This is another example of this Government’s determination to hide or bury bad news at a time when their position of power is threatened at the ballot box.”
