CAUTIOUS WELCOME FOR CHILD SUPPORT PROPOSALS

Speaking after the Government's announcement today (Monday) on changes to the child support system Mike Weir MP, SNP Shadow Minister for Work and Pension, gave a cautious welcome but warned that the Government must ensure no-one falls through the gaps.

Commenting Mr Weir said:

"It would appear we are returning to the position we were in Scotland prior to the creation of the CSA.

"In short there will be no automatic transfer cases from the CSA and the new body. The government must be very careful indeed to ensure that no one falls through the gap.

"However there are very real concerns that parents with childcare may not receive all of the money they are due during the changeover period between the CSA and the new body."
