BROWN SPINNING OVER PENSION CHANGE
Mike Weir MP, SNP Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions, accused Prime Minister Gordon Brown of simply spinning over pension change during his speech to the Labour party conference.
During his speech Mr Brown “re-affirmed” the commitment to link pensions to earnings, but did not say when this would be done.
Mr Weir said:
“Yet again we see Brown simply spinning over pension change rather than delivering. When the Pension Act was passing through Parliament the government refused to give a definite date when the change would be introduced. The change may not be made until 2015.
“Gordon Brown went for a cheap round of applause rather than giving any commitment to take real action on pensions. It will still be many years before it is introduced and will do nothing to help today’s pensioners.”
