WEIR COMMENTS ON OFGEM NATIONAL GRID FINE

Commenting on news that National Grid has today (Monday) been fined £41.6million for restricting competition in the gas metering market by energy regulator Ofgem, SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, said:

“This is a welcome, if overdue, intervention by Ofgem, who have clearly found evidence of anti-competitive behavior in the energy market.

“The regulator is damning in its decision that National Grid has abused its dominance, and coming as a succession of energy firms announce inflation-busting price increases, it does raise questions on why Ofgem have resisted a full investigation into the energy market for so long.

“This development underlines the need for a quick, but thorough, investigation into the energy market.”
