WEIR VISITS OFFSHORE NORTHERN SEAS EXHIBITION IN STAVANGER
OIL AND GAS WILL REMAIN IMPORTANT PART ANGUS ECONOMY
As part of a delegation from the British Offshore Oil and Gas Industry All Party Group Angus MP Mike Weir visited the Offshore Northern Seas Exhibition in Stavanger, Norway this week.
During the visit the group held attended the conference on “Bridging the Energy Gap” and held a series of meetings with Norwegian politicians and senior figures in the oil industry as well as attending the Exhibition.
Amongst those exhibiting at the exhibition was Montrose firm Merpro, and Mr Weir visited their stand in the Scotland section of the Exhibiton hall.
Mr Weir, who is a vice chairman of the all party group, said that the visit was a useful and informative insight into the current situation and future of the oil and gas industry, which was an important component of the Angus economy.
“The good news for the Angus economy is that the industry is in a bouyant phase .Clearly the oil and gas industry in the North Sea has a considerable future and will provide work and business in the local area for many years to come.”
“The less good news is that whilst the conference was focussing on the ‘Bridging the Energy Gap’ it was less clear that some of the major energy companies were really addressing the real problems of future energy needs and climate change.”
