GOVERNMENT
IGNORING TODAY'S PENSIONERS
CITIZEN'S PENSION NEEDED MORE THAN EVER
The Government's pension proposals ignore today's pensioners says Mike Weir MP,
the SNP's Shadow Pensions Spokesperson.
Mr Weir was commenting the day before a major debate on the Government's
pensions plans to which he has tabled a motion calling for the immediate
introduction of a Citizen's Pension. This is in line with proposals by the
National Pensioners Convention (NPC).
The SNP MP said:
"From all that we have learnt about the Government's plans no-where does it
address present pensioner poverty.
"By
introducing a Citizens Pension now the Government would address those problems.
The NPC recognises this and so does the SNP.
"By ignoring it the Government has shown itself out of touch with pensioners
throughout Scotland and the UK."
