WEIR RAISES QUESTIONS OVER INFORMATION AT MONTROSE STATION

Angus MP Mike Weir is raising with the Transport Minister concerns over the lack of information on some services at Montrose Station when it is not staffed.

Mr Weir raised concerns after experiencing the difficulties personally on Sunday evening when he took his daughter to catch a train to Aberdeen.

“The timetable clearly stated that there was a train at 8.32pm and we arrived at the station in plenty of time. I was concerned that none of the electronic boards listed the train and, indeed, the first train to Aberdeen was listed as 9.43. “

“Several other passengers had also turned up for the train. No explanation was available for the lack of any information. One of the other passengers used the help point to be told he had reached the Scotrail control room, the train in question was a GNER service which had been cancelled and that they had no other information.”

“Part of the problem is clearly the ludicrous situation we have on the railway where all services in Scotland are operated by Scotrail, yet there is a different service on the East Coast main line run by GNER.”

“It seems to me to be utterly ludicrous, however, that the two companies could not work together to ensure information was given to passengers waiting at Montrose. At the very least the departures board in the waiting room could have carried a message that the train had been cancelled.”

“GNER have lost the east coast franchise, which is now being transferred to National Express. I am contacting the Transport Minister to urge that action be taken to ensure that, in  future, both companies work together to ensure that passengers at stations which are not staffed at night  have information on all services, not just those operated by Scotrail.”
