Weir Receives Glamis Post Office Petition
Angus MP Mike Weir met with Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore, and Glamis Community Council Chairman Bill Dougan to receive a petition from residents of the area against the Post Office plans to replace the local Post Office with an Outreach service.
Mr Weir is to seek to present the petition to the House of Commons.
Commenting on the petition he said
“The huge number of signatures from this small community demonstrates yet again the strength of feeling against the Post Office plans. The Community Council have run a magnificent campaign and we have had two public meetings which were packed to the rafters. The Post Office can have been left in no doubt of the level of opposition to their plans.”
“The proposed run down of services will impact not only on villagers but also on businesses in the area. Small local businesses rely on the Post Office and its loss will make it more difficult for business in rural Angus. Surely this goes directly against stated UK government policy.”
Mr Weir also urged local people, if they have not already done so, to also write to Post Office limited and Postwatch to register their opposition.
“The more individual letters they receive the greater will be the impact. We have until 8th July to make representations so time is of the essence.”
